It was with great sadness and sorrow that we learned on June 18, 2018, the news of the death of Prof. Dr. Bernd Thum, which deeply shocked us. His disappearance represents a great loss of a personal friend for nearly twenty years, but also for his friends both in Germany and here in Tunisia and more widely in the Maghreb. Personally, I keep him an unforgettable memory, that of an academician of great talent but also a humanist of great sincerity who has contributed so much to the cultural rapprochement between the elites of countries on both shores of the Mediterranean. It should be remembered that the regret has made a strong commitment and has campaigned for years to promote contacts and relations of friendship and cooperation between academicians, civil society actors and more widely between all the peoples on both sides of the world. the Mediterranean . His dream was to see a real cultural dialogue between North and South, between East and West, as the only lifeline at the beginning of the century, in the face of the multifaceted challenges of globalization with the advent of a mass tourism, the return of populism and religious misunderstandings, the specter of wars and violenceThe Heidelberg and Stuttgart Conferences of 23-26 January 2018 on "Heritage Sharing" were his ultimate struggle to serve these noble ideals of tolerance, peace and fraternity among men at a particularly critical moment in relations between Europeans. and Arabs mark Alas! everywhere by the resurgence of the old demons of extremism, fanaticism and xenophobia. As such, Mr Thum deserves all our respect will not be forgotten. He will remain in our memories as one of the great friends of Tunisia, the Maghreb and the Mediterranean.May God allow him to rest in peace!Prof. Dr. Mohieddine Hadhri
