Amsterdam from 22 - 28 August 2010

Presentation

The International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS) or le International Committee of Historical Sciences (CISH) has been founded in Geneva on May 15, 1926. Today, the organization encompasses a total of fifty-three countries.
The ICHS includes two sorts of organizations. First of all, there are the National Committees formed in each country from their individual centers for historical research. In addition, International Commissions specializing in particular fields of history (some known as ‘International Affiliated Organizations’ and others as Internal Commissions) have formed over the years.
The 21st Congress of the CISH took place in the heart of the city of Amsterdam. Three major themes on which the historians worked, were this year there, the fall of the Empires, the City as Culture and the connections between Religion and Power.

The purpose of this research paper is to provide a retrospective and comprehensive overview on the historical UNESCO-Arab World relations as a part of the emerging UN System during the second half of the XX th Century . In this respect, the UNESCO-Arab World ‘s relations constitute a privileged platform to investigate the process of evolution of the place hold by the Arab region within the UN Network and System during more than fifty years .More largely, this paper will enlighten the complexities of such relations , the obstacles faced by Arab countries to promote a better understanding of the Arab Muslim cultures and civilizations at a time when the international situation was gravely deteriorated and haunted by the spectrum of “Clach of Civilizations “ .

The main objectives of this paper are the following :
1) To examine the status and the role of Unesco as a specialized agency of the United Nations Organization in the history of the international relations during the post-World War II , that is, since its foundation in November, 1945.
